Colt Python Round Butt 357 Mag 2.5" 6rd Stainless Revolver

Colt brought the Python back in 2020 and has been filling out the line ever since. This is the round butt 2.5" version, a Davidsons exclusive and the first modern Python built on a round butt grip frame. The round butt matters more than it sounds. It shortens the rear profile of the grip so the gun rides flatter against the body and rolls into the hand faster on the draw, which is the entire argument for a short barreled 357 Magnum. The finish is semi bright stainless, and the walnut grips carry finger grooves and gold Colt medallions.

Mechanically it is the current Python: six rounds of 357 Magnum, a full underlug barrel, the ventilated rib and ejector rod shroud the model has worn since 1955, and the redesigned action Colt built for the new gun. That action is why people buy these. The double action stroke stacks less than most of the competition and the single action break is short and clean. Recoil from full house magnum loads in a 2.5" barrel is honest, which is why most owners practice with 38 Special and keep magnums loaded for carry. Steel frame weight is what makes that trade workable in the first place.
