Savage's 110 Trailblazer XP in 300 HAM'R is built short on purpose. A 16.5" fluted barrel keeps the rifle out of the brush and light in the hands, and the flutes shave weight off a barrel that would otherwise carry it all up front. That length suits the cartridge: 300 HAM'R was drawn up to push 30 caliber hunting bullets from a short tube without magnum recoil or magnum noise, so a compact bolt action is a natural home for it.

The barreled action sits in a flat dark gray synthetic stock with adjustable length of pull, which matters more than most people expect. A rifle that fits a hunter in a heavy December coat is usually too long once the layers come off, and this one adjusts to both. Synthetic construction takes rain, snow and the knocks that come with hunting out of a truck without swelling or shifting the way wood can. Magazine capacity is 4 rounds, and a scope comes with this configuration, so the glass is already sorted. This is the right hand version.
