Pietta built the Keeper Of The Plains as a tribute piece, and the decoration is the entire point. Engraved scenes and lithographic art cover the frame, barrel and cylinder, eagle feather work runs down the solid black grips, and the whole gun wears Pietta's deep Ultra Black finish so the engraving reads clearly instead of getting lost. Underneath the artwork it is a 4.75" 1873 pattern six gun in 357 Magnum, which also lets it shoot 38 Special for lighter practice.

Mechanically this is the single action design that has been in continuous production for a century and a half. Load through the gate one chamber at a time, cock the hammer for each shot, then punch the empties out with the ejector rod.
