Pietta calls the Great Western II Premier a labor of love, and the build sheet backs that up. The color case hardening is done the old way with bone and charcoal rather than chemicals, which is why no two frames come out of the shop looking quite alike. The grips are high grade hardwood, checkered and fitted to the frame instead of dropped on. Screws, cylinder pin, and ejector rod knob all carry a deep blue, and a member of the Pietta family checks each revolver before it leaves.

Mechanically this is a faithful 1873 single action in 45 Colt with a 4.75 inch barrel and a 6 round cylinder. The 45 Colt is a big, slow, heavy bullet that hits out of proportion to its paper numbers and is pleasant to shoot in a gun of this weight. The loading gate and the ejector rod work the way the originals did, so anyone who has run a single action before will be at home immediately.
