Pietta Cowpoke 45 Colt 4.75" 6rd Engraved Revolver

Pietta named this one the Cowpoke and then engraved the whole gun to back up the name. The frame, barrel and cylinder are covered in scrollwork, and the walnut grip is cut in a cowhide pattern with lines from well known cowboy songs worked into the panels. Deep cuts, an exposed hammer, and a shape that has not changed in a century and a half. Sitting in a case it looks like a presentation piece; in the hand it feels like a revolver someone meant to use.

The chambering here is 45 Colt, which is the original round for this frame and the one that gives the gun its slow, heavy push instead of a sharp crack. Six rounds, a 4.75" barrel, exposed hammer and gate loading. Cock it, aim it, drop the hammer, and repeat until the cylinder is empty, then use the ejector rod one case at a time the way it has always been done. Cowboy action shooters run this configuration because it is quick out of leather and quick back into rhythm, and everyone else buys it because there is nothing else on the shelf that looks like it.
