Great Lakes Firearms GL700 SUB-1 308 Win 18" 5rd Lichen Grey Rifle

This is the lichen grey version of the Great Lakes SUB-1, a 308 Win bolt gun built on a Remington 700 pattern action. Building on the 700 footprint is a deliberate choice. Every aftermarket trigger, base and bottom metal already on the market fits, so upgrading later costs you parts instead of a whole new rifle. The barrel is 18" of stainless steel, short enough to stay quick in the timber or coming out of a truck and long enough to keep 308 Win doing what it does.

The lichen grey stock finish is the other half of the appeal. It is a muted, broken up pattern that reads as a working rifle rather than a safe queen, and it stays quiet in timber and open country alike. A picatinny rail is already on the receiver, so glass goes on with a set of rings and nothing else. The detachable box magazine holds 5 rounds. A short barrel does cost a little velocity next to a longer tube, but for shots taken inside 400 yards on deer sized game the difference is academic and the handling advantage is not. If you want a 700 pattern rifle to build on rather than a finished product you are stuck with, this is a sensible place to start.
