Colt Monolithic CQB Carbine 5.56 NATO 10.3" 30rd SBR

Colt built the Monolithic CQB carbine around a one piece upper receiver, where the top rail and the handguard are machined from the same block of aluminum instead of being clamped together at a barrel nut. Nothing mounted to that rail can shift relative to the bore, which is the entire argument for a monolithic upper: a light, a laser, or a night vision device stays zeroed to the gun no matter how hard the rifle gets handled. At 10.3" the barrel puts this one squarely in short barrel rifle territory, and that is the point. It clears a doorway, a hallway, or a vehicle interior without the muzzle arriving somewhere before the shooter does.

Everything behind the receiver is familiar Colt. Direct impingement gas, a carbine length system, standard AR-15 controls, and a stock interface that takes ordinary carbine furniture. It feeds 5.56 NATO from standard AR-15 magazines and comes with a 30rd magazine. A barrel this short trades velocity for maneuverability and makes considerably more noise doing it, which is why most 10.3" guns end up wearing a can. Finish is matte black. Colt has been building the LE line for agencies for decades and this is that rifle in its shortest genuinely useful form.
