Smith & Wesson M&P 5.7 5.7x28mm 5" 22rd MultiCam Pistol

The M&P 5.7 is Smith & Wesson's entry into 5.7x28mm, and the interesting part is how it works. The TEMPO barrel system uses a gas port near the muzzle to hold the action closed until the bullet is gone, so the cartridge burns its powder in a barrel that stays locked rather than one that starts opening early. The result is a pistol that runs the round at the velocity it was built for with very little felt recoil and a muzzle that barely moves between shots.

The magazine holds 22rd, which changes how a range session goes more than any other number on the spec sheet. The slide is cut for a micro red dot, the sights are white dot, and the flat face trigger gives the finger a consistent place to sit. The barrel is 5" and threaded 1/2-28 behind a protector, so a can or a brake goes on without gunsmithing. This one wears a MultiCam finish over the frame and slide instead of the usual black, and it comes without a thumb safety. At this size the 5.7 works as a house gun and a range gun both: light bullets, flat trajectory, low recoil, and enough rounds in the magazine that reloading becomes an afterthought.
