About the Ruger Super Redhawk 357
Ruger put eight rounds of 357 Magnum into a Super Redhawk with a 2.5" barrel, which is a lot of revolver in a short package. The cylinder is unfluted with a recessed ejector and is cut to accept full moon clips, so reloads happen about as fast as a revolver reload can. Frame, barrel and cylinder are satin stainless, so sweat and weather are not much of a concern.
The triple locking cylinder locks into the frame at the front, rear and bottom, which is how Ruger keeps things aligned on a gun that will see a steady diet of full power 357 loads. A Hogue Tamer Monogrip with an internal cushion sitting under the web of the hand takes the sting out of those loads, and the peg style grip frame accepts custom grips for anyone who wants a different shape. The rear sight is adjustable, the front is a replaceable red ramp, and a transfer bar keeps the hammer off the firing pin until the trigger is pulled all the way through. It also chambers 38 Special for softer practice sessions. At 47 ounces it is heavy for its length, and that weight is exactly what makes a short barrel 357 manageable.
