The Rock Island PK-12 Pak Out Short is a 12 GA built around one idea: fit a serious shotgun into a space where a serious shotgun does not normally fit. Unfolded it measures 26.75" overall. Folded it drops to 18.5", which is small enough for a pack, a boat locker or the space behind a truck seat. The 14.25" barrel and spring assisted pump action feed from a tube holding four shells, and the chamber takes shells up to 3".
The furniture is fixed polymer over an anodized metal finish, and the gun is genuinely light in the hand, so a deliberate grip matters more here than it would on a full weight pump. Sighting is simple: a bead up front and a notch cut into the takedown. The spring assist takes some of the work out of running the slide, which makes short stroking under stress less likely for a shooter who has not put a thousand rounds through a pump gun. Rock Island positions the Pak Out as a personal protection and recreational shotgun, and the folding format is the entire point of the design.
