About the LWRC IC-DI 5.56 NATO
The IC-DI is LWRC's direct impingement carbine, built on the same receiver set the company uses for its piston rifles. This one is a 16.1 inch 5.56 NATO in gray. Sixteen inches is the length most shooters land on for a general purpose carbine because it keeps enough velocity for defensive loads to work as intended while staying short enough to move through a doorway or a vehicle without fighting the rifle.
LWRC machines its own uppers and lowers, and the fit between them is noticeably tighter than a parts bin build. The M-LOK handguard runs long and clean, giving room to mount a light, a sling point and a hand stop exactly where the shooter's support hand lands rather than where a fixed rail allows. It runs standard AR-15 magazines and standard controls, including 30 round magazines. Direct impingement is the simpler of the two operating systems: fewer parts to lose, a lighter carrier group, and a shooting impulse that stays flat. For a shooter who wanted an LWRC rifle without paying the piston premium, this is the one to look at.
