About the Kimber CDS9 9mm 3.18"
CDS9 stands for Covert Double Stack, and it is Kimber's answer to what happened to the carry market after the micro nine class went double stack. The old Micro 9 was slim and all metal and hammer fired, and people liked it for exactly those reasons, but it held six rounds. Kimber kept the metal frame and the single action trigger and rebuilt the rest around a wider magazine, which is why this pistol reads familiar to a 1911 shooter and still carries a modern round count.
The frame is aluminum alloy and the slide is stainless, cut for an RMSc pattern red dot so a micro optic mounts straight to the slide with no milling bill in between. There is an accessory rail under the dust cover for a compact light. Controls are ambidextrous on both the safety and the slide release and the magazine release reverses, so a left handed shooter is not working around the gun. The barrel measures 3.18" and this configuration comes with a 10rd magazine, which keeps the grip short enough to hide under a shirt for anyone who does not want the taller magazines.
