Great Lakes Firearms GL700 SUB-1 308 Win 18" 5rd Lichen Tan Rifle

Great Lakes Firearms builds the GL700 on a Remington 700 pattern action, which is the most supported bolt gun footprint in the country. Stocks, triggers, bottom metal and scope bases cut for a 700 drop right on, so this rifle is a starting point rather than a closed system. The barrel is 18" of stainless steel, short enough to stay quick in the timber or coming out of a truck and stiff enough to hold a group. Stainless is the sensible choice on a rifle that gets carried in weather that would put rust on a blued barrel.

The stock is carbon fiber in a lichen tan finish, and it does two jobs at once. It keeps the rifle light for the way it will actually be carried, and it holds its shape when the weather turns, unlike wood or a soft injection molded shell. A picatinny rail comes fitted to the receiver, so mounting glass is a matter of picking rings. Feeding is from a 5 round detachable box magazine. An 18" barrel in 308 Win gives up a little velocity against a 22" tube, but what you get back is a rifle that is genuinely easy to carry all day and still hits hard inside any normal hunting distance.
