Great Lakes Firearms builds the GL15 to California specification, which means a 10rd magazine, but nothing under the paint is a compromise. The barrel is a 16" stainless heavy profile chambered in 223 Wylde, the hybrid chamber that holds tight enough for match 223 Remington accuracy while still running 5.56 NATO at safe pressure. That is the chamber experienced AR shooters ask for by name, and it is the reason a rifle like this groups better than a chrome lined service barrel on the same ammunition.

A 15.25" aluminum handguard with a full length Picatinny top rail covers almost the entire barrel and leaves the muzzle out for the brake, which threads on 1/2-28. The gas system is carbine length, the upper and lower are aluminum, and the feed ramps follow the M4 pattern.
