Colt Government Competition Series 70 9mm 5" 9rd Pistol

Colt built the Competition on the full size Government frame, which is the 1911 pattern almost everyone pictures when they hear the number. Five inches of National Match barrel gives it the sight track and the balance that made the platform a match staple for a century, and the weight of an all steel frame keeps the muzzle from climbing far between shots. In 9mm the whole package is mild to shoot, which is exactly what a shooter wants when the timer is running and the second shot matters as much as the first.

Colt fitted this one with the parts a competitor asks for. Novak sights front and rear, the front carrying a red fiber optic rod and the rear adjustable for windage and elevation, with spare fibers included. The Series 70 firing system gives a cleaner trigger press than the later firing pin safety design, and it works against a skeletonized three hole aluminum trigger. An upswept beavertail and an undercut trigger guard let the hand ride high, and checkered G10 grip panels with a scalloped cut hold onto sweaty palms. A dual recoil spring assembly softens the impulse and keeps spring changes further apart. Two 9rd magazines come in the box.
