This Competitor HD carries a manual thumb safety on the frame, which matters for anyone shooting a division that requires one or for shooters who already train the 1911 style safety sweep on the draw. Underneath that one change it is the same heavy competition M&P: a stainless steel frame, a 5" spiral fluted stainless barrel, and a lightened slide with deep serrations, all under an Armornite black finish.

The steel frame is what separates this pistol from a standard M&P. The extra weight holds the muzzle flat through a string of fire, and the texturing added to the sides of the grip gives the support hand something real to lock onto. The front sight is a HI-VIZ unit carrying both tritium and fiber optic, and the rear is a serrated U notch blacked out so the eye is never pulled back to it. C.O.R.E. cuts in the slide take a competition dot directly. Four 17 round magazines come in the case. Between the magazine count, the optic cut and the manual safety, this one can be run across several divisions without a trip to a gunsmith first.
