About the Mossberg 990 AfterShock SPX
The 990 AfterShock SPX is a gas operated 12 gauge built on the AfterShock grip with no stock, which keeps overall length down to something that maneuvers in a hallway or stores behind a truck seat. The 14.75" barrel carries an integrated heat shield, and the forend around it adds M-LOK slots and QD ports so a light and a sling mount without adapters. A fiber optic front sight sits between low profile protective wings, and the receiver is cut for a Shield RMSc footprint optic with three extra adapter plates in the box for RMR, Docter and Leupold pattern sights.
Mossberg reworked the details that matter when one of these gets run hard. The loading port is enlarged and beveled, the charging handle is knurled, and the safety and bolt release are both oversized. A magazine tube extension brings capacity to 5 rounds and carries its own M-LOK slots. The gas system and internal parts get corrosion resistant treatment, and the barrel and receiver wear flat dark earth Cerakote against black polymer furniture. A cylinder bore choke comes installed. Recoil in a gas gun this size is far easier to manage than a pump of the same dimensions, and the second shot is already lined up.
