Henry H1 Western Frontier 22 LR 20" 16rd Walnut Rifle

The Western Frontier is the traditional end of Henry's H1 rimfire line. Twenty inches of octagon blued steel up front, American walnut behind it, and a brass bead sitting in a fully adjustable semi buckhorn rear with a diamond insert, the sight picture generations of shooters learned on. Nothing about the rifle is trying to look modern and that is the appeal. At six and a half pounds it carries enough weight to hang steady offhand instead of wandering the way a featherweight rimfire does.

The tube holds 16 rounds of 22 LR, or 17 Longs, or 23 Shorts, since the chamber takes all three. The receiver wears a black finish and is grooved 3/8 inch, so rimfire rings will mount a scope if your eyes prefer glass to irons. The lever throw is short and the action smooth enough that working it becomes the fun part rather than a chore. This is a plinking rifle first and a small game rifle second, and it is a good first rifle for someone who ought to learn on a manually operated action before they touch anything self loading.
