About the CZ 83 380 ACP
The CZ 83 is the Czech factory's double stack 380, and it was built the old way, with steel where a modern gun would use polymer. That construction is exactly why an 83 shoots a 380 as gently as it does: there is enough mass in the gun to soak up a cartridge that was mild to begin with. The magazine holds 12rd, the trigger is traditional double action with an exposed hammer, and the finish on this one is blued. The controls are ambidextrous, which was unusual when the pistol was designed and is still uncommon on a gun this size.
This example is previously owned and graded excellent, the top of the usual used grading scale, which describes a mechanically sound pistol showing minimal finish wear. The 83 served as a Czech police and civilian sidearm through the 1980s and 1990s and has a following out of proportion to how many of them ever reached the United States. Fixed sights, a fully enclosed slide, and a grip that genuinely fills the hand make it a pleasant range pistol and a credible defensive gun in its chambering. It is heavier than any modern 380 on the shelf, and that weight is precisely why people who own one keep it: recoil is close to nothing and the sights barely move between shots.
