The Gold Cup name has meant a target grade Colt since the 1950s, and this is the version built for shooters who run a dot. The slide comes cut with a factory optics plate and a G-Style serrated rear sight already fitted, so a reflex sight goes on without machining. Up front is a Novak fiber optic and underneath is a 5 inch National Match barrel, which is where the accuracy reputation comes from.

Colt cut 25 LPI checkering into the front strap and mainspring housing, and the grip is their competition blue G10 with a scalloped pattern that gives real purchase without shredding a hand over a long day. The magazine well is beveled for fast reloads, the beavertail is upswept, and the trigger guard is undercut so the hand sits high on the bore axis. Frame and slide are stainless steel with a brushed finish. It runs the same single action trigger the platform has always had, feeding 45 ACP from an 8 round magazine. This is a full size steel 1911 that weighs 40 ounces, and all of that mass goes toward keeping the sights flat between shots on a timer.
