About the Colt Combat Commander 9mm
The Commander is the 1911 Colt shortened for carry back in 1949, and the Combat Commander is the steel framed version of it. This one is chambered in 9mm with a 4.25" stainless National Match barrel, and the slide comes cut for an optic with a removable cover plate and a G style dovetail rear sight. Pull the plate, mount a red dot, and the sight height has already been worked out at the factory.
In 9mm a steel Commander is a soft shooting gun. The frame weight that makes a 45 pleasant makes a 9mm feel like almost nothing, which is why this configuration gets picked for classes and long range days as often as for carry. Colt's dual spring recoil system keeps slide velocity in check and stretches spring life. The black cherry G10 grips give a real purchase without the sandpaper feel of aggressive checkering, and the upswept beavertail lets the web of the hand ride high without getting bitten by the hammer. Controls sit where a 1911 shooter's hands already go: single action trigger, thumb safety doubled on both sides, grip safety. Nine rounds in the magazine, white dot front sight, and enough weight up front to keep the dot flat during a string.
