Cimarron Frontier Maple Flint 250th Commemorative Flintlock 50 Cal Rifle

Cimarron put this Frontier flintlock out for the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, and the details point straight at the Overmountain Men who marched on Kings Mountain in October 1780. The stock and forend are maple, left light and figured rather than stained dark, and the lock is a true flintlock rather than a percussion gun dressed up to look like one. Overall length runs a hair over 50 inches and the rifle weighs 7.71 pounds.

It is a 50 caliber muzzleloader, loaded from the front with loose powder and a patched ball the same way the originals were. Shooting a flintlock is a different discipline than shooting a caplock. The pan gets primed, the frizzen has to be clean and sharp, and the shooter has to hold through the flash before the main charge goes off. That is the entire appeal for the people who shoot them. As a commemorative it earns a place over a mantel, and as a shooter it is a working reproduction of the long rifle a frontier militia carried into one of the turning points of the Southern campaign.
