Charter Arms builds the Undercover Lite for people who carry a revolver every day rather than shoot one occasionally. The frame is aluminum with a steel barrel and cylinder, so the gun rides on a belt or in a bag without dragging either out of shape. Barrel length is 2", the cylinder holds five rounds of 38 Special, and the exposed hammer gives you a lighter single action press when there is time to take a careful shot.

White pearlite grips are the visual signature of this version, a departure from the usual black rubber, and they fill the hand better than the thin wood panels found on older snub revolvers. A transfer bar sits between the hammer and the firing pin, so the revolver cannot fire until the trigger runs all the way through. Charter threads its barrels into the frame instead of pressing them in, which is one reason these guns hold their zero. Fixed sights, no external levers to catch on a cover garment, and a manual of arms simple enough to teach in an afternoon. For a first defensive handgun, or a lightweight companion to a larger pistol, it does the job without asking much of the owner.
