Weatherby Vanguard Obsidian 223 Rem 20" 5rd Rifle

This Vanguard Obsidian carries a heavy #3 contour barrel, cut to a handy 20 inches and chambered in 223 Remington. The barrel is cold hammer forged and threaded 5/8-24 at the muzzle, ready for a brake or suppressor. Metalwork is blued, the black synthetic Monte Carlo stock has a raised comb, and the drilled and tapped receiver takes standard Vanguard scope bases.

A heavy barrel 223 bolt gun is a varmint and predator tool first. The extra weight, close to 8 pounds, soaks up the little recoil there is and stays steady through long strings on prairie dogs or ground squirrels, and the short barrel makes it easy to carry on a coyote stand. The action is pure Vanguard: an integral recoil lug, an M16 style extractor, a 3 position safety and a two stage match grade trigger, with a 5 round internal magazine and hinged floorplate. Weatherby backs it with a sub MOA accuracy guarantee. Mount a scope with some magnification, add a bipod and it is ready for a day on the dog town.
