The 856 is Taurus's small frame six shooter, and that sixth chamber is the main reason people pick it over a traditional five shot snub. Barrel, cylinder, and frame are matte stainless steel, so sweat and holster wear are less of a worry on a gun that gets carried every day. The 2" barrel keeps it short enough for a pocket holster or an inside the waistband rig under an untucked shirt.

Double action pulls are long and deliberate. Thumbing the exposed hammer back gives a short single action press for a slower, more precise shot. A transfer bar sits between the hammer and the firing pin, so the revolver can only fire when the trigger runs fully to the rear. The 38 Special +P rating means it handles modern defensive loads and light target wadcutters equally well, which keeps practice cheap and recoil manageable. Fixed sights, rounded edges that do not snag on a cover garment, and a soft grip that takes some sting out of hot loads finish it off.
