Savage builds this Axis 2 XP in 270 Winchester with a hardwood stock and a 4 round capacity. Wood adds weight over a hollow synthetic stock, and that extra mass settles a rifle down when you are shooting off a rest, a pack or a truck window. Hardwood also takes the knocks a hunting rifle picks up over a season without the hollow sound a cheap synthetic stock makes when it hits a rock.

270 Winchester has been a standard American hunting cartridge since 1925 and remains one of the most common chamberings on the shelf, which keeps ammunition selection wide at any counter.
