Ruger AR-15 Stripped Upper Receiver

Ruger builds this upper receiver for AR-15 pattern rifles and sells it stripped, so it arrives as a bare housing with none of the internals fitted. That leaves the build decisions open: barrel, gas system, bolt carrier group and charging handle all get chosen and installed separately.

Ruger is direct about the limits of any component sold on its own. The company notes that the sheer range of firearms and parts on the market means it cannot guarantee this receiver will be compatible with every combination, and it recommends installation by a qualified gunsmith. That is worth taking seriously on a part that carries the barrel and houses the bolt.
