Mossberg Patriot 243 Win 22" 5rd OD Green Rifle

The Patriot is Mossberg's core bolt action hunting line, and this 243 Win came out of the OD Green run, which is why the stock is flat green instead of the usual black. The 22" barrel is fluted, trimming weight off the front end and giving the steel more surface to shed heat during a long sit at a prairie dog town. Underneath sits Mossberg's user adjustable trigger, so the pull can be set to the shooter's hand instead of left wherever the factory put it. The bolt body is spiral fluted and the handle is streamlined to clear a low mounted scope.

243 Win is one of the easiest centerfire rounds to shoot well. Recoil is mild enough that a new shooter will not build a flinch, and the cartridge still carries plenty for deer and antelope while doubling as a coyote round. Feeding comes from a 5rd detachable box magazine that drops free, so topping off in the field is quick and quiet. The receiver is drilled and tapped for bases, the matte blued finish keeps glare down in open country, and the synthetic stock takes weather without complaint. Nothing on this rifle is decoration. It is a hunting tool first.
