22 ARC is one of the more interesting cartridges to show up in years, a 22 caliber round built on the 6mm ARC case that pushes heavy for caliber bullets fast enough to reach well past where a 223 runs out of steam. Put it in a Howa Mini Action and you have a rifle that is short, light, and chambered for exactly the sort of shooting a ranch rifle actually sees. The Mini Action receiver is built to the length of short cartridges rather than being a long action with a spacer in the magazine box, so nothing is carried for no reason.

The Fence Line build runs a 20" heavy contour barrel with a threaded muzzle and a factory brake fitted. Heavy barrels matter when you are shooting a string at a prairie dog town or calling coyotes back to back, because point of impact stays put as the steel warms up. Underneath is Howa's HACT two stage trigger, a 90 degree bolt throw with dual locking lugs and an M16 pattern extractor, and a three position safety. The detachable magazine holds five rounds. Bronze metal work pairs with a scorched earth camo stock that disappears against dry grass. Howa guarantees the barreled action to one inch or better at 100 yards with match ammunition.
