About the FN 309 MRD 9mm
FN built the 309 MRD around an internal hammer instead of a striker, and the difference shows up in two places a shooter notices immediately. The slide racks with far less effort than a striker gun, which matters for anyone fighting hand strength, and the trigger breaks like a single action because the hammer is already cocked when the slide closes. Takedown needs no trigger pull. Multiple internal safeties are built in and this model carries a manual thumb safety.
The slide is cut for a red dot and accepts optics on the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro or Shield RMS footprint, so most common carry optics mount without an adapter plate. A green fiber optic front sight sits ahead of a white U notch rear for fast pickup in daylight. The 3.8" barrel wears a recessed target crown, the polymer frame carries a Picatinny rail and a textured grip shield, and the pistol comes with one 16 round magazine and one 20 round magazine. At about 22.5 ounces it lands between a carry gun and a duty gun, which is exactly where a lot of home defense pistols belong.
