The Colt Night Commander takes the classic 1911 Commander profile and kits it out for low light work. A 4.25" barrel keeps the gun carry friendly while the aluminum alloy frame drops weight to 29.4 ounces, a real difference on the belt compared to a full steel 1911. Novak tritium 3 dot night sights front and rear give clear aiming references in dim lighting, and the half checkered G10 scallop grips lock the gun into a firing grip without tearing up a cover garment.
Colt fitted the Night Commander with a dual recoil spring system that cuts felt recoil with 230 grain 45 ACP loads and extends spring life well past traditional single spring setups. An upswept beavertail grip safety prevents hammer bite and channels the hand high into the frame, while the undercut trigger guard and skeletonized aluminum three hole trigger keep pointability and trigger feel crisp. Series 80 firing pin safety, extended thumb safety and a stainless slide matched to the blued frame round out a 1911 that's purpose built for carry and duty use rather than range-only trim.
