Charter Arms builds small revolvers for people who actually carry them, and the Cougar follows that pattern. It is a 5 shot 38 Special on a lightweight aluminum frame with a 2" barrel, which puts it in the weight class of a pocket 380 while chambering a cartridge with a much longer service record. The cylinder swings out on a solid crane, the fixed sights have nothing on them to snag on a pocket, and there is nothing to fumble under stress beyond the cylinder release.

This version pairs a black finish with rose gold accents, a combination that reads as jewelry until it gets to the range. Underneath it is the same working gun. A 38 Special revolver has no magazine to seat, no slide to rack and no failure mode that a second trigger pull will not solve, which is why the platform still turns up in coat pockets and nightstand drawers decades after the semi auto took over.
