It costs you barrel life and a bit more recoil, and it buys back wind performance and reach, which is a trade a lot of mountain hunters and long range shooters take without much argument.

As a pre-fit, the chamber and headspace are done at the factory, so a barrel nut and a wrench replace the lathe work and the wait. Twenty inches keeps the rifle handy on a cartridge that most people end up running suppressed, where every inch of barrel gets multiplied by the can hanging off the end. The 1:8 twist covers the long 6.5mm hunting and match bullets.
