The 45-70 Govt load drives a 300gr jacketed hollow point out at 1880 fps, and the bullet nose is shaped to sit safely against the primer ahead of it in a tubular magazine. Expansion comes quick, which is what you want on deer and hogs at the 150 yard distances most lever guns actually get used at.
