Weatherby Mark V Carbon Compact 308 Win 20" Rifle

The Mark V Carbon Compact is Weatherby's answer for shooters who need a shorter length of pull and a lighter rifle without dropping down to a youth gun. It runs the lighter 6-Lug Standard Action and a BSF carbon barrel measuring 20 inches, chambered here in 308 Win. The stock is a hand laid fiberglass shell with a raised Monte Carlo comb, black with brown, green and white sponge accents worked into it.

That Monte Carlo profile is doing real work. It directs recoil away from the shooter's face instead of driving it straight back into the cheek, which keeps the head planted and the eye behind the scope through the shot. Weatherby pairs it with the Accubrake DST, a directional self timing brake that cuts muzzle rise. Finish work is split up: OD Green Cerakote on the trigger guard and receiver, graphite black Cerakote on the bolt, bolt knob and safety. The carbon barrel is where most of the weight savings come from, and a 20 inch tube keeps the whole rifle short enough to swing in timber. 308 Win rounds it out sensibly. Ammunition is available anywhere, the recoil stays civil in a light rifle, and it has taken more deer and elk than anyone has bothered to count.
