Direct thread is the simplest way to hang a can: threads on the muzzle, threads on the mount, nothing in between to wear out or shake loose. Fewer parts also means less to align, and alignment is what matters most when a bullet is passing through a tube. The 1/2-28 pitch is the common muzzle thread on 22 and 9mm hosts. Snug it down, then check it between strings the way you would any threaded muzzle attachment.
