About the Savage Axis XP 7mm-08
The Axis XP is Savage's scoped package rifle, and this one is chambered in 7mm-08 Rem with a heavy sporter barrel. The barrel is button rifled and headspaced with Savage's thread-in method, the two features Savage points to for the line's accuracy. The muzzle carries 5/8-24 threads for a brake or a suppressor. Feeding is from a detachable 4 round box magazine. The receiver is matte black and the stock is black synthetic, a working finish rather than a showpiece.
Savage reshaped the bolt handle for this generation. The larger, more ergonomic shape is easier to find without looking and easier to run in rain or cold weather, which is where a small factory handle usually gets noticed. Up top, the 3-9x40 scope comes mounted and boresighted at the factory, so the rifle needs a zero confirmation at the range rather than rings, bases and a mounting session first. That is the point of the XP designation: Savage builds the package for hunters who want a rifle that shoots out of the box, and this one is set up to be carried and shot rather than fussed over.
