Savage Axis XP 270 Win 20" 4rd 3-9x40 Scope Rifle

270 Win in a 20" barrel makes a compact rifle out of a long action cartridge. You give up a little velocity and get back a rifle that swings faster and rides better in a scabbard, and inside 300 yards that trade favors the shorter tube. The Axis XP comes with a 3-9x40 scope mounted and boresighted at the factory, so the rifle only needs ammunition and a range session before a hunt.

270 Win shoots flat, hits hard enough for elk with the right bullet, and has been a mule deer standard for a century. Savage feeds it from a 4rd detachable box magazine. The barrel is button rifled and headspaced with a thread-in barrel nut, the same method Savage uses across its line, and the muzzle is threaded for a brake or a suppressor. The bolt handle on the current Axis was reshaped for a better grip with gloves on. The stock is black synthetic with molded texture and sling swivel studs. It is an unfussy hunting rig, with the effort put into the barrel and the action rather than the cosmetics.
