Delrin is a hard plastic that will not swell, shrink or soak up blood and water the way wood and leather do, which is why it turns up on knives that get used wet. A fixed blade has no pivot and no lock, so there is nothing in it to work loose over a season. Five inches is a lot of edge for field work: long enough to break down a big animal, short enough that the tip stays under control in close quarters.
