The ACE-R Upland Ultralight puts a humpback receiver on Retay's inertia platform, which gives the eye a longer, flatter sight plane running from the back of the receiver straight out to the bead. Shooters who grew up behind a humpback autoloader will recognise the look and the way the gun points. The aluminum receiver is drilled and tapped, and the 26 inch deep bore drilled barrel keeps the swing honest on crossing birds without piling on weight.

Retay's Straight Line Inertial Transfer System does the cycling, backed by the patented Inertia Plus bolt rollover torsion spring. The forcing cone is lengthened at the factory as part of Retay's out of the box optimization, and the AIRY recoil pad takes a claimed 30 percent off felt recoil, which is welcome in a gun this light. A single fiber optic bead sits up front. AA grade satin walnut carries a 14.5 inch pull, with shims in the box to move drop and cast, the safety is oversized and reversible, and the trigger group drops out at the push of a button. It runs 12 gauge shells up to 3 inches, holds 3 rounds, and comes with five flush chokes from cylinder to full.
