The gas tube is the part of an AR-15 that most cleaning kits skip, because nothing in a standard rod set is thin enough to go down it. These are sized for the job: 16" long and 1/8" in diameter, which is enough to run the full length of a carbine or mid length gas tube and pull the carbon out of the passage.

They work like a stiff pipe cleaner. Feed one through, let the fibers scrub the inside wall, and pull it out with the fouling on it. Pro-Shot packs 50 to a resealable bag, so there is no reason to ration them, and they also fit other gas operated rifles using tubes in the same diameter.
