About the Mossberg Patriot Predator 7mm
The Patriot Predator is the no frills end of Mossberg's bolt action line, and this one is chambered in 7mm PRC. The barrel runs 24", fluted to cut weight and finished in matte blue, with threads at the muzzle for a brake or a suppressor. Fluting on a barrel this long is worth having - it takes mass out of the middle without dropping the contour down to a pencil profile.
There are no iron sights on this rifle. A Picatinny rail comes fitted to the receiver instead, so mounting glass is a matter of rings and nothing else. The stock is synthetic with a fixed length of pull, which keeps the parts count and the maintenance low. The detachable box magazine holds three rounds. The whole package points at open country, where a longer barrel and a modern magnum chambering earn their keep and where a rifle spends far more of the day being carried than being shot. Mossberg keeps the Patriot line spare on purpose.
