Mossberg Patriot 400 Legend 20" 4rd OD Green Rifle

400 Legend was built for hunters stuck with straight wall cartridge rules, and it lands between 350 Legend and 450 Bushmaster: more bullet than the smaller round, less punishment than the bigger one. Mossberg chambered the Patriot for it behind a 20" barrel, which keeps the rifle quick between the hands in a box blind or a thick creek bottom where a long barrel is nothing but a nuisance. The muzzle is threaded, so a brake or a suppressor screws on directly.

The detachable box magazine holds 4rd and drops free, which beats feeding rounds through the ejection port when it is time to unload at the end of a sit. The trigger is user adjustable. Metal is matte blued, and the stock is OD Green synthetic with texture molded into the grip and forend, a change from the standard black most rifles wear. Recoil sits well under what a 450 generates, which makes this an easier rifle to hand to a young hunter or anyone who flinches, without giving up much on deer sized game inside a couple hundred yards. The Patriot has never pretended to be anything other than a hunting rifle, and this chambering keeps it in the woods in the states where a conventional bottleneck rifle cartridge is off the table.
