The Mossberg 990 Aftershock SPX is the semi-auto follow-up to the 590 Shockwave concept — a 12-gauge non-NFA firearm with a bird's head grip, short barrel, and ATF-classified "firearm" status rather than shotgun or SBS. Because it's not a shotgun under the ATF definition (no stock, never had one from the factory, over 26" overall length), it sits in the same legal category as the Shockwave despite running a semi-auto gas-operated action. The 14.375" barrel keeps overall length above the 26" minimum while still giving you a compact platform for truck, boat, or bedside use.

The 990 Aftershock SPX borrows the 940 Pro's dual-vent gas system for soft, consistent cycling across 2 3/4" and 3" shells, and it feeds from a tube magazine with a 5-round capacity. The bird's head grip is checkered polymer with an aggressive profile, the receiver is drilled and tapped for optics, and the barrel wears a heat shield with ghost ring sights for quick target acquisition. Matte blue finish over the barrel and receiver, black polymer furniture. A serious home-defense or short-barrel utility gun without the NFA paperwork.
