The bull profile is the reason to choose it. A thick, straight walled barrel holds its point of impact through long strings the way a pencil profile cannot, which is why bull barrels live on varmint rigs and bench guns rather than patrol carbines, and 24 inches is about as much barrel as anyone puts on an AR-pattern rifle.
