The VX-5HD Gen 2 is built on Leupold's Professional Grade Optical System, and the 50mm objective is there to maximize brightness for low light hunts and for picking game out of dense terrain. The optical system is built for light transmission, edge to edge clarity and control of glare. The Guard-Ion lens coating sheds water, dirt and smudges, which keeps the view clean when the weather does not cooperate.

The FireDot 4 Fine reticle is illuminated, so the aiming point stays visible when an animal blends into a shadowed timber edge. An integrated throw lever moves the power ring in a hurry, the fast focus eyepiece sharpens the reticle in seconds, and the tool free SpeedSet elevation dial handles holdover without a screwdriver. The adjustments are competition grade, and the scope is built to be rugged without carrying much weight.
