Texas Dove is Federal's regional dove shell, and the spec sheet reads like a dove load should: 12 gauge, 2.75" hull, 1-1/8oz of lead shot in #7.5, 25rd to the box.

There is no trick to it. Dove hunting goes through shells in a hurry, so the shell that matters is the one you can buy by the carton and shoot all afternoon without thinking about it. #7.5 puts a lot of small pellets in the air, which is what a bird that changes direction twice on the way in calls for. The 2.75" length works in any 12 gauge on the field, including the older guns that come out once a year for opening weekend.
