Texas Dove is Federal's answer to birds that have already been shot at for a month. A full 1-1/4oz of #7.5 lead moving 1350 fps puts more pellets in the air and keeps them there farther out, which is what it takes once doves start flaring at 40 yards. That is a heavier payload than a standard field load carries in the same 2.75" hull.

The shot is hard lead, so pellets stay round through the forcing cone and pattern tighter than soft shot would at the same range.
