Buy Now: Skip Checkout at Shooting Surplus

Buy now is a gold button on shootingsurplus.com that skips checkout. It puts the order on your saved card, ships it to your default shipping address and, for guns, sends it to your saved FFL dealer. You see the exact total before you place the order, and every checkout rule still applies. It is live now for signed-in customers. Here is how it works and how to set it up.

Buy now sits under Add to Cart, with a short line that shows where the order goes and which card pays.

Where you'll see Buy now

• Product pages: right under Add to Cart. A small line below it shows your ship-to city and card, like Visa 4242. For guns it shows your dealer.
• On your phone: in the bar that stays at the bottom of the product page, next to Add to Cart.
• Your cart: open the cart from the header and Buy now sits under Checkout. It buys the whole cart, up to 25 different items.

You won't see it on category pages or in search results. If you're signed out, product pages and the cart show "Sign in to skip checkout with Buy now." instead.

How one order goes

1. Tap Buy now. A sheet opens with your items, where they ship, the shipping method, Shipping Protection, any automatic discount, tax and the exact total that will be charged.
2. Check it over. Shipping Protection is ticked, and you can untick it. Tap Change to pay with a different saved card. Your address and dealer are changed in your account.
3. Slide the button that says Slide to place order.
4. A 5-second countdown starts ("Placing your order in 5...") with a Cancel button. Nothing is charged until it reaches zero. Tap Cancel and you'll see "Cancelled. Nothing was charged."

If anything changed before you placed the order, the sheet shows it and asks you to check and slide again. If you use a keyboard or a screen reader, you get a Place order button with the same countdown. When the order goes through, you land on the normal order confirmation page.

The sheet shows the exact total. During the countdown, Cancel stops the order and nothing is charged.

Guns, ammo and the rules that still apply

Buy now doesn't skip any rule. It runs the same checks as checkout and uses what's already saved in your account.

• Guns ship to your saved FFL dealer, the one you mark as preferred. You still fill out the paperwork and pass the background check at the dealer when you pick up.
• Handguns and receivers need a preferred dealer in your own state.
• Suppressors, short-barreled rifles and shotguns, and AOWs need a preferred dealer in your state who handles NFA items. States that don't allow them stay blocked.
• Ammo going to California, New York or DC ships to your dealer, so it needs a preferred dealer too.
• State shipping limits work the same as at checkout. See our state restrictions page, and check your state and local laws.
• Some states need a license for the item: the Illinois FOID, Massachusetts FID or LTC, New Jersey FID, Connecticut permit or certificate, and Rhode Island Blue Card. For Buy now, yours must already be on file under Licenses & Permits.

When Buy now can't take an item, you'll see "Add to cart instead" or "Check out instead," and regular checkout handles it. New to buying a gun online? Read how buying a firearm online works.

Mixed carts work from the cart. Add a pistol and a part, tap Buy now in the cart, and the sheet shows the gun going to your dealer and the part shipping to your door, with one total.

From the cart, the gun goes to your FFL dealer and the part ships to you. Both show on the sheet before you slide.

What still goes through checkout

Buy now pays with a saved card only. Black powder guns, layaway, PayPal, financing, typed promo codes, store credit and shipping addresses outside the US all go through regular checkout. Automatic promotions still apply to Buy now orders.

How to set up Buy now

You do this once. After that, the gold button shows up wherever Buy now can take the order.

1. Sign in or create an account at My Account. If you shopped on our old site, you likely have an account already. Sign in with a text code or reset your password.
2. Save a card. At checkout, tick "Save this card for faster checkout and Buy now." The box stays unticked unless you tick it. After your first order, you can also add a card under My Account > Payment Methods.
3. Set a default shipping address. Checkout saves your ship-to address as the default if you don't have one yet. You can also press Make default under My Account > Addresses.
4. Pick your FFL dealer for guns, and for ammo going to California, New York or DC. Go to My Account > My FFL Dealer and press Make preferred. If you only buy gear, skip this one. Gear ships to you.
5. Add your state license if your state needs one for the item, under My Account > Licenses & Permits.

Your account Overview has a Set up Buy now card that keeps track, like "Skip checkout on your next order. 2 of 4 done." Each open step links to the page that finishes it, and the card goes away once you're set.

Not fully set up after an order? The order confirmation page says "Next time, skip checkout with Buy now." and names the step that's missing. Once everything is in place, look for the gold Buy now button on product pages and in your cart.
